Ms. Chandra Young
Born and raised in Comfort Cove, Newfoundland, Chandra understands the importance of culture and small community relationships. After graduating high school, Chandra headed to university where she studied music and education. In 2006, she received a Bachelor of Music degree and a Bachelor of Education degree. This provided her the opportunity to move to Fort McMurray as an elementary and junior high music teacher. While music is her passion, she also taught EEP, kindergarten, grade 1, 2 and 6 Homerooms in both Fort McMurray Catholic and Public School Boards. In 2021, Chandra received a Masters of Educational Leadership degree and decided to move to a role outside of the school system. In this move, she had the pleasure of working with other nations within the RMWB region as education coordinator for post secondary students and adult learning. Chandra is excited to be back into the classroom and is looking forward to learning more of the Cree and Dene language and culture. She is excited to incorporate the community, its members and their teachings into the music curriculum. When Chandra isn’t at school teaching our students, you can find her spending time with her husband and two daughters camping, singing around a campfire, baking and traveling.
